Teaching for mathematical understanding requires more than a pedagogical shift. The learning cycle is a framework for moving student thinking forward from emerging ideas and invented strategies towards the depth of conceptual and procedural knowledge required for putting mathematics into practice. This session will examine how learning cycles promote student thinking, allowing them to construct mathematical understanding over time.
